Ref. "Casir"

I am in receipt of your circular, ref. as

above,

and I have studied the particulars.

in replying as follows :-

Have pleasure

I have been acquainted with Mr. Robert Ashton Hill for 6/7 years, and I should consider him in every way well fitted for such a post as that described.

He is strictly temperate total abstainer I think) and absolutely honest and straightforward. He is a member of the Church of England and takes an interest in Church work.

He is of average size, very strong and healthy. He is I think, very clever, and I know that he is extremely interested in his work. Has wide interests and is an interesting man to talk to.

I can commend him for any post where qualities of leadership and influence would count. Though quiet and unassuming in manner he has the knack of bringing out the best in other people.

Just a small point typical of the man

I have never been able to get him to make an unfafourable remark about any person mentioned in our intimate conversation.

He is a good sportsman and would be ready to take his part in games etc., though I do not think he belongs to any organised cricket or football olub.

His hobby is the open-air life, cycling walking and camping, and he runs, very successfully, the local troop of scouts.
